Title:
GhostFace - Pretty Toney Album

Review:
After dropping Killah from his name, Ghostface has released his fourth solo album dubbed The Pretty Tony Album album. This album shows a progressive development of the soulful styling introduced on the Ironman album, one of the best and last good albums to come from the Wu. Although it is a progression in his sound Ghostface also has a track or two that is reminiscent of the early Wu sound, some softer sounding tracks, and some rough sounding tracks. All around the album is very well rounded. This album my be what The Wu-Tang Clan needs to resurrect itself.

Ghostface has a style of rhyming that he can make work with almost any beat. Where as a few of the solo efforts from members out of the Wu camp were carried by the Rza’s beats. With the exception of the Rza, Meth, and Dirt McGirt; Ghostface has breathed new life into the Wu and hopefully from what the first track says a new Wu album may be in the works.

I liked this album more every time I listened to it. It just makes me happy to see a good album coming from a member of the Wu, which have been disappearing from the hip-hop world. Although I really do like this album, I really think it could have omitted the "Bathroom Skit." It disturbed me in a way that I should not be disturbed in. I do think the album could have had more appearances from the other members of the Wu, but when hearing an album from a member of the group you expect and hope to hear collaborations from them on the tracks. All nit picking and jokes aside, I think this is a good album and a breath of fresh air from a lot of the lesser music I have heard lately.

Some of the highlights on the album for me were "Biscuits," which reminds me of a track from the Ironman album. Track 8, "It's Over" is a great track, a good example of a track with well blended vocals, beats, and soul. On track 14, "Be This Way" Ghostface does what he does best. Track 16, "Tooken Back" does not really fit into what I expect to hear from Ghost, but the track works. Track 17, "Run" is just a hard track with a great beats that just takes you into it-- I really like this track and it is one of my favorites on the album. This definitely a good album if I had not gotten it for free I’d probably buy it myself. Hopefully this is just the start of a new insurgence of The Wu moving back into the forefront of hip-hop where they belong. If it is, it is definitely a strong opening act from the camp and I hope it only gets better. Plenty of good tracks here and it’s worth your money. For anyone that is into the Wu, you’ll be happy with this album and for those that are not listen to it, it’s a good album. Pick it up, play it and play it again.
