Making the band 3!
I thought that Puff was done with the Making the Band series, but today news floated across my monitor that he has signed on for another season. Chopper lovers will be disappointed because Young City won't be in it. This time around Puff will put together an all girl group.

The word from MTV Entertainment Executive Vice President Lois Curren goes a lil something like this.. "We watched P. Diddy work magic with his last group Da Band, who despite their issues working together, still managed to take their very first album gold. We can't wait to see what he has in store for us as he forms a girl group in a whole new music genre." Now from that last piece.. "a whole new music genre" .. it's hard to tell if they are talking about a pop group along the lines of Dream or if it'll be Total: The New Generation.
MTV could give a damn about record sales, they love those P. Diddy ratings though. That's their motivation, but what is motivating Puff to do this show again? You can fill a 747 with the critics who say Puff is more concerned with his own celebrity status then actually making music. Book me on that flight.

I truly admire Puff for the way he has hustled his way from an intern to owning businesses and homes worth millions. However, ever since the shootout in Club NY that found Shyne in jail and Puff losing J.Lo, his focus on music has been blurry to say the least. There was that brief second when it looked like he was getting the early vibe of the label back. Songs like G-Dep's "Let Get It" and Puff's "I Need A Girl" were really doing it. Then came "Shake Ya Talifeather" and the success of Making the Band 2. That seems to be the Tipping Point: the place where keeping his profile high became more important than anything coming out of Bad Boy Entertainment.

Eight Ball and MJG have a solid album that they could have sold just as well if they would have stayed on an independent. Mario Winans was a nice surprise, have you heard the second single? Me either. There was a time when a hot single would have filtered into three singles and a remix by now. Then there are the forgotten artists who look like they had/have promise.. Off the top I'm thinking of Cheri Dennis and will the last two Band members, Babs and Ness, ever see an official disc?

It's natural for people to evolve. Maybe the routine of music making doesn't excite him like it used to, but it's as if nothing gets done promotion wise if Puff is not directly involved. I'm sure there are reels of tape from songs we've never heard. If he wants to get his shine on, pass the baton to the next man/woman in line. Let them run the show, with him falling back Yoda style. Of course, the chance of that happening is about as sure as Ralph Nader winning the election. With that said, you can be sure I'll be watching this show, especially if he's looking for an R&B group. If Puff thought he had trouble with Sara, wait until he gets 4 or 5 mini-divas in a room. That's a guaranteed recipe for drama. The question is.. beyond that, will anything else come out this? We'll find out sometime next year, that's when the show hits the air. Auditions start next month - the first two weeks of October will find Diddy in Los Angeles, Miami, and NYC looking for contestants. No info on exact dates yet, when it comes through I'll let you know.
