The Rap Scene
By Jayne Scot A.K.A. The Game
The rap scene is changing, there is no doubt about
it. But is it changing for the better or for worse? Old school hip hop was
generally about partying, politics or social themes and most of the time, these
songs had a message. Nowadays, most of the songs don't convey as strong of a
message as they use to, and are generally created for the sake of releasing a
song.
We are of course reffering to mainstream hip hop right now, where some of
the songs released really have no meaning and are pointless. Don't get me wrong
here, one wouldn't mind listening to them because of the catchy beats but
compared to what old school rappers such as:
The Beastie Boys, Dee Dee King, DJ Kool Herc, Doctor
Dre & Ed Lover, Doctor Ice, Doctor Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, Doug E. Fresh, Run
D.M.C., The Educated Rapper, The Fat Boys, Fresh Gordon, Full Force, Funkmaster
Flex, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five
Ice-T, NWA, THE MEAN MACHINE, Word of Mouth
produced, I sometimes doubt myself and wonder If I am really listening to rap. I
guess we are not listening to 'rap' but 'New School Hip Hop' which consists of
mainly upbeat beats with rappers singing about anything from shaking our tail
feathers to just loosing it. OWHAHAWA :) So if anyone is a sucker for old school
rap by groups such as NWA, or even new groups that actually rap such as the
underrated Bone Thugs, feel free to drop me a message.
